Cast and Synopsis

Perhaps our most ambitious adventure yet was this exciting collaboration with Intermezzo Opera. Boston’s “Mrs. Jack” was internationally known for her ability to connect people around the arts. A traditional “Patroness of the Arts” in many ways, she was in other ways daring, original and way ahead of her time. She came to life again in Robert Edward Smith’s new chamber opera with a libretto by William Fregosi and Fritz Bell.

Passion and Tango

Back by popular demand! Last year we began our exploration of the intersection of tango and chamber music. And we discovered that the tango is an amazing form for understanding the essence of chamber music.

We are thrilled to welcome back to the stage tango dancers Tom Jenkins and Julie Leven. The spontaneous moves of the dancers visually mirror the interplay between the musicians, allowing the audience to both see and hear the musical collaboration at the same time.

We’ve also invited more composers to contribute to this passionate art form. Hear the latest from John McDonald, Scott Wheeler and Katrina Wreede along with heartfelt works by Dvorak and Grieg. It’s sure to make your spirits soar!

Tapas and Argentinean wines capped this evening of romance (special thanks to our food donors: Dali Restaurant and Capone Foods).

Antonin Dvorak: Cypresses

Edvard Grieg: Heart Wounds and Last Spring

John McDonald: New Work

Astor Piazzolla: Tango Ballet

Scott Wheeler: New Work

Katrina Wreede: yet another tango

Best-Loved Premieres

Friday, October 15, 2010

Looking back over the past ten years, one of the things we’re proudest of is premiering new works. We’ve chosen three works that stood out as audience favorites and we’re bringing them to you again — as an anniversary gift. We believe they deserve a place in the classic repertory alongside Bach and Mendelssohn. In addition to encoring Tison Street’s work, celebrated oboist Peggy Pearson will also perform J.S. Bach’s gorgeous Concerto for oboe d’amore.

Stephen Feigenbaum: Serenade and The Last Straw

Robert Edward Smith: Sicilienne and Tarantella

Tison Street: Overture, Soliloquy and Metamorphosis

J.S. Bach: Concerto for oboe d’amore

Felix Mendelssohn: Sinfonia #7

Free reception:  Launch our 10th Anniversary season with wine and antipasti after the concert.
