Now in its third year, this is the place to be for a memorable Valentine’s date that will enchant both seasoned music lovers and newcomers to classical music alike. Delicious tapas and Argentinean wines will cap this evening of romance. Olé!

Evening in the Palace of Reason

Saturday, November 5, 2011 at 7:30 PM
First Church, 66 Marlborough Street, Boston

Music by J.S. Bach, Frederick the Great, CPE Bach, and Libby Larsen

Our point of departure for this concert is a meeting between J.S. Bach and Frederick the Great, described by James R. Gaines in his wonderful book, Evening in the Palace of Reason (highly recommended reading!)

The acclaimed flutist Renee Krimsier will be our soloist as we present music for flute and strings by Frederick the Great,Johann Joachim Quantz and J.S. Bach, and a Sinfonia by Bach’s son Carl Phillip Emmanuel who was Frederick’s court composer. The encounter between J.S. Bach and Frederick has also inspired a new work by renowned American composer Libby Larsen, the Boston première of which we are thrilled to be giving. After the concert join the performers in the lobby for German food and drink. Ja!
