Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 7:30 PM
First Church, 66 Marlborough St. in Boston’s Back Bay.
Music by Strauss, Brahms, Harbison, Piazzolla, Bizet, Milhaud and a world premiere by Robert Edward Smith.
Armando Orzuza and Nuria Martinez
Back by popular demand, we continue our annual exploration of tango, deepening our appreciation of this smoldering musical style with tangos from an unexpected lineup of composers, plus other romantic music from Brahms, Strauss and Bizet.
Internationally-known tango dancers Armando Orzuza and Nuria Martinez will join the COB on stage for a striking visual accompaniment to tangos by Piazzolla. The COB will perform more tangos by Milhaud, John Harbison, and a world premiere by Robert Edward Smith.
Middle-Eastern dancer Najmat will bring her graceful interpretation to an evocative piece called La Flor De Estambul, and we’re delighted to welcome back piano soloist Virginia Eskin to lend her special brand of fire to the evening.
A free post-concert reception of tapas, chocolate and Argentinean wines will cap this evening of romance. Olé!
Romance in Motion:Tango and Beyond is Saturday, February 11 at 7:30 PM at First Church Boston, 66 Marlborough St. In addition to tangos by the above composers, the COB will perform Prelude to Capriccio by Richard Strauss, Love-song Waltzes by Brahms, and Bizet’s Andantio.
